Judgment, with costs, was given for plaintiffs in tho following undefended cases:—John Chambers and Son, Ltd., v. Wilfred Price (Edendalo), £49 2s lOd, for goods sold and delivered; Dunedin Drainage and Sewerage Board y William Charles Reynolds, £BO 5s 2d, amoVt of instalments and interest due; Jo\ Edward Butler, Ltd. v. W. H. Walker (Otautau), costs only (15s); W. A. Scott and Sous v. William Thomsen (Mosgiel), £1 ss, amount of account stated; 0. H. Brook v. John Jowor (Ngapunn), £l2 14s Cd, amount of account rendered. INCREASING THE RENT.
Jane Wallace applied for relief from tho provision of part 1 of “ Tho War Legislation Amendment Act, 1916” in respect of a dwelling. No. 78 lennyson street, and also of a dwelling, No. 74 Tennyson street, in order to incron so tho rent so ns to get a return of 7 pur cent, on tho capital value. Mr J. B. Callnn appeared for the plaintiff, Mr E. B. Adams for W. Lockhart, and Mr H. S. Adams for J. D. M'Donald, the Wo tenants. Mr (Allan said that tho two houses were in Tennyson street, and tlia valuation to-day for the house occupied by M'Donald was £I,BOO. and that of tho one occupied by Lockhart £I,OOO. The rents wore 28s 6d and 23s 6d per wc-ely respectively. Evidence as to tho value and condition of the houses was given by Percy Foote, an employee of the Perpetual Trustees and Agency _ Company, ' William H. Parkinson (a builder), and Robert M'Konzio, lend agent. After reviewing tho evidence tho , Magistrate fixed M'Douald’s rent at ! 32s Gd and Lockhart’s at 2oa.
