A general meeting of saw-mill owners, held at. Taumarunui on Thursday, convened. by tho Main Trunk Timber Trade Pro- - lection Guild, was attended by over fifty executive representatives of mills between Thames, Rotorua, and Hunterville. Matters of grave import to the industry and tho community wore considered. It. appeared that the main difficulty facing: tho industry is dearth of orders and slackness of trade. After discussion a, motion was adopted reducing the hours of work by closing down on Saturdays. If tho-slump continues a further reduction of working hours may bo necessary. This measure was adopted as less likely to cause hardship than closing the mills down. Should any appreciable reduction in production costs be attained by the contemplated reduction in wages, the benefit will De given immediately to tho cpnsumer by
