Our Christchurch correspondent wires In the Waimalc Cup the public fancied Palestrina, UciTGown, Corn Rigs, Masr.ma, and Castellan in that order. From the
start- Corn Rigs took the lead, and he ran along the back with a three lengths’ lead of the nearest opposition, while Palestrina was gradually coming from the rear. Shortly after passing tho half-mile post Palestrina went out after the Mark-hope gelding, and was at his quarters turning for homo, where Corn Rigs went wide and carried Palestrina with him. The two finished many lengths clear .f Castellan. The stewards at once held a meeting and disqualified Palestrina for the race and C. Young, her rider, for one calendar month for crossing Red Gown and Castellan just after passing the four-furlong post. G. Young will appeal against his suspension. General Potain pulled up lame after tho hurdles. Bcllrock ran a bad race, and evidently the stilo he injured at Dunedin was not right. Many Kittle was tenth favorite fo ■ the Trial Plato, and paid a very handsome dividend. SPORTS MEETING AT GERALDINE. At the St. Patrick’s sports at Geraldine yesterday, in the cycling events J.
