CHRISTIAN SCIENTIST’S DEATH
CORONER ON DELAY IN CALLING DOCTOR.
Au inquest was held at Hammersmith on a recent Saturday on the body of a, Christian Scientist, Judith Kathleen Jupp (fifty), of Warwick road, Miss Norah' Jupp said that her sUa had not been well for some time but, beiim a Christian Scientist, had refused to have a doctor. The witness however, eont for one on Monday, as her fintei seemed to bo ill with bronchitis but death occurred before he _ came. Mu-S Gertrude Pearks, a Christian Science “healer,” said that it was lent to Cnmtian Scientists themselves to say whetnei they would have a doctor. The Coroner; Supposing that you were in danger of bleeding to death, would you call in surgical aid?—The Witness: No. You would prefer to bleed to death, l should not bleed to death —that is my fa i)r F. s. Wallace, of Earl’s Court road, said that in /making a post-mortem examination he found cancer in two places and one lung was diseased. There was onlv a little bronchitis. Death was due to pleurisy and cancer. _ , The Coroner, in recording a verdict ot “Death from natural causes,” deplored the fact that tho unfortunate delay in calling, in medical aid had not only caused a public inquiry, but had deprived Miss Jupp of treatment which would have undoubtedly prolonged hor life.
