SENATE DISCUSSING WOOL SCHEDULE'.

The Senate’s Finance Committee is considering tho wool schedule of the Fordney Tariff Bill. It heard various witnesses. It is stated that efforts are being made to have the duly fixed at 15 cents per lb for low grade wools, such as the South American type.
Senator Gooding stated that tho sheep industry had suffered greatly, the numbers decreasing from 64,000,000 to 35,000,000 during the last twenty years. Other witnesses pointed' out that tho Fordney Bill as passed by the House provided that the rates should not exceed 35 per cent, ad valorem. They said that only specific rates' should bo included in the permanent tariff, all duties to he based on clean wool, which would work out at 33 cents per lb for scoured,, 2?. cents for washed, and 11 cents for greasv.—A. and N.Z.
