HEALTH OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN

The ordinary monthly meeting of the committee of the Royal N.Z. Society lor lbs Health of Women and Children was held in the Plunket Rooms this morning; present Mcsdames Jos. M’George (in the chair), Moore, J. C. M’George, K. Ross, Sidey, Solomon, Kelly, Gallaway, O’Neill, Rattray, Mandeno, tho Misses Reid, Gow, Pattrick, Sister Nora, and tho secretary. Apologies were received from Mesdames Johnstone, Theomin, G. R. Ritchie, Arun. del, Isaacs, Jackson.

The matron of the Karitanc-Harris Hospital reported as follows for the month ended February 28; —Number of patients admitted during the month, mothers 3, babies 9: number of patients discharged during tho month, mothers 2, babies 9; greatest number in residence on any ono day, mothers 3, babies 20—23; number of patients in residence on February 28, mothers 2, babies 16—18; number of Blunket Nurses in training, 17; number, of Karitaue nurses in training, 11. Nurse Musgravc completed her course of training, and Nurses James, Currie, and Burnley commenced a course of training during tho month. Nurse Hynes entered the hospital 1 for a short “refresher” course. Gifts were received from Mesdamcs Callaway, M'George, Thcomin, Girvan, Johnstone, the Misses Reid,. Hynes, and Mr Boyles. The Blanket nurses for tho north .and central districts reported as under for tho month ended February 28.—Number of babies on the list, 326; number of babies breast-fed (includi ig partly), 127; number of new cases for tho month (babies'only), 16; advice given to expectant mothers, 2; number of visits paid to homes, 358; number of visits to Blanket Rooms, Stuart street —adults 244, babies 159, total 40a; number of bottles of humanised milk sent out from the Taieri dairy, 5,029. The Blanket nurse for South Dunedin district reported for the month Number of babies on the list, 300; number of babies breast-fed (including partly), 124; number of visits paid to homes, 315; number of visits to Blanket Rooms, King Edward street, South Dunedin—adults. 134, babies 125, total 260, The Blanket nurse for Anderson Bay district and out-stations reported for the month:—Number of babies on the list, 79; number of babies breast-fed (including partly), 29: number of now cases for the month (babies only), 3; number of visits paid to homes, .128; visits paid to Blanket Rooms, Mosgicl—adults 27, babies 23, total 60: visits paid to Blunket Rooms, Bort Chalmers—adults 7, babies 6, total 13. Visits were paid to out-stations as follow i—Mosgml 7, Port Chalmers 4, Abbotsford 6, Wingatui 3, Green Island 4, Burnside 4, Ra.vensbourno 4, and Portohello 2,

The Plunket nurses report that coids and diarrhoea have been prevalent, but in most eases have responded quickly to treatment. The death of ono baby is reported, the causo being meningitis following upon chest trouble. Tho following ladies tendered their resignations from the committee . —MesJames Case! berg, Ansel I, Hodson, and M'Kibbin, the two latter having removed from Dunedin. Tho resignations wore accepted with regret. Tho Taiori branch reported that they bad made arrangements to bold a sals in aid of the funds of tho society in tho Early Settlers’ Hall on Friday, the 31st inst.
