Tho Canadian Pioneer is reported as having arrived at New York on March 14 from Wellington via ports. Sho has on board New Zealand cargo for discharge at Montreal. After a stay of thirteen days at Auckland the Japanese training ship Taisei Maru sailed last Monday afternoon for Tokio, Japan, which she expects to reach in about forty-five days. Tho Waihomo is expected to complete discharge of tho Auckland portion of her cargo from Pacific Coast ports and sail for° Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin to-morrow. Tho San Francisco mail steamer Mamma arrived at Rarotonga at 10 o.m. on Sunday last from Wellington, and sailed at 6 p.m. the same day for Papeete and San Francisco. Captain 0. Clift, late of tho Manuka, i? to take over command of the Mocraki. Mr G. A Grav and Mr 11, M. Hurley have joined the vessel as first and second officers respectively, and Mr 11. White, late of tho Wahine, has been appointed chief steward. The Euripides is to sail from .Sydney for London via South Africa on April 5, and is to bo followed by tho Sophocles about May 6. The Ceroinic will leave Melbourne for London on March 20, to be followed by other steamers' in tbo order named Suevic, May 20; Medic, June 3; Persic, early in July. The City of Winchester, which loft Now York on February 28, Is duo at Auckland about tho end of the month. Sho has cargo for discharge at Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The fact that tho Gisborne Harbor Board is making oven' possible effort to get the channel in tho harbor restored to its normal depth was shown by tho fact that the dredge John Towrclcy was at work on Sunday, March 5, while the tide suited. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the Wiltshire, which left 'Wellington on January 27 for London via Panama, arrived at her destination on March 12.

WRECKED STEAMER PERTH. Exactly fonr months after the day the vessel struck oh the Greymonth bar— November 15 —the hull of the Australian steamer Perth on Monday last broke amidships (reports the Greymonth correspondent of the Christchurch ‘Sun’). If a northerly wind springs up before the broken vessel has gone to the bottom, part of the wreck will go into the channel and create trouble for the port authorities and for mariners.

PANE HA TO LOAD,

The Shaw-SaviH steamer Pakdha is to leave Newca.st.le to-morrow for Now Plymouth, which port she should reach on March 22 to commence loading. Tho vessel will also take in cargo at Wangacoi and Wellington, and is duo at tho latter port on April! S. She is to sail six days later for London via. Capo Horn.

TRELOSKE TO LOAD

Measure Turnbull, Martin, and 00. advise that the Trclosko, from Launceston, which is at present loading at Lyttelton, will oom'o to Port. Chalmers. and will then proceed to Bluff and Wellington. Sho is duo hero in a day or two to Kid wool arid general cargo. Tho Trelosko is scheduled to leave Wellington at the ond of March for Liverpool and Manchester.

The Kha.w-f?a-viil Company advises that the Athenic loft Auckland on Wednesday for Gisborne and Wellington, to complete her Homeward loading. Owing to the delays in loading not proving as lengthy as at first anticipated, the vessel wall now reach Wellington on March 22, thus enabling her to ho despatched at daybreak seven days later for Southampton and London via Panama. Passengers are renuasted te omtok on the evening of March 28.

STRANDED SCHOONER VALMAIUE.

The auxiliary deck scow Kohi returned to Wellington early this week, after an unsuccessful visit for the purpose of cargo salvaging at Farewell Spit, where tho schooner Valmarie is ashoro with a load of hardwood. A heavy surf prevented tho Kohi retting within a mile of the Va.lmario, so tho attempt was abandoned. A boat containing tho captain of the Kohi and several members of the scow's crew managed to reach tho Valmarie. They stated that tho whole of tho schooner’s cargo of hardwood is still aboard her. Tho vessel has settled some feet down in the sand, and although tho water was all round her at high tide it was possible to jump from the end of the jibbocm on to tho dry send. Tho schooner is on an oven keel, is apparently quite undamaged, and all her top hamper is in good order. A salvage party was to leave Wellington early this morning for tho stranded schooner, and will endeavor to refloat the vessel on tho ensuing spring tides.

NEW STEAMER KYLEBEG.

The new steamer Kylobog, which arrived at Dunedin yesterday afternoon from Wellington, went to Port Chalmers early this morning, and was placed in. dry‘dock for defining and painting. She will return to Dunedin on Tuesday to load for way ports and, Wanganui. The Kylebeg was built at Dublin last year by Dublin Shipbuilders, Ltd. She is a tingle screw steel ship, and is fitted with triple expansion engines, which on her trials gave her a speed of 10.4 knots. On _tho voyage out from Homo she averaged _ eight knots. A feature of the vessel, which is an uncommonly fmo typo of cargo-carrier, is the large amount of space available tor cargo. This has been scoured by the placing of the main engines aft, _ There are two Largo hatchways for the discharge and loading of cargo, and the aft hatchway is fitted with two winches, thus enabling three gangs of men, to bo employed in the working of the vessel. The voyage of the Kylebeg from Glasgow was uneventful, and was mode for tho most part in fine weather. On two occasions, however—once in the Irish Channel, and tho second time soon after passing through tho Suez Canal—'rough weather was experienced, On_ January 31 a. cyclone was encountered; but on this occasion, as on tho others, tho Kylebeg proved herself a fine sea boat. Bnnhury f’W.A.) was reached on February 9, pud from there the vessel proceeded to Newcastle to load for Nelson.

Captain. f>. Holm, of Wanganui, is In command of tho Kylebeg, and bis officers are : —First, Mr A. Hawick; second, Mr R. Simpson; chief engineer. Mr W. TJrquhart; second engineer, Mr J. Lockhead.

WORLD’S LARGEST STEAMERS,

Two now ships, tho Majestic (56,000 tons], the largest steamer in the world, and the Homeric (35,000 tons), tho largest twin-screw steamer, are about to bo added to tho White Star Lino’s Failings between Southampton, Cherbourg, and New York. These vessels will co-opcrato with the Olympic, tho largest triple-screw steamer. Tho Adriatic (24,541 tons) will bo transferred to Liverpool, whore sho will bo operated with the Baltic (23.876 tons), the Cedric (21.073 tons), and tho Celtic (21,026 tons), in a weekly service to Now York via Queenstown. Thus tho famous "Big Four" of tho White Star Lino fleet will once more operate in their original trade. Tho combined gross register of tho seven steamers named, the mruil.lo.st ot which is over 21,000 tons, amounts to no less than 223,000 tons. Tho Pittsburgh, a now oil-burning vessel of 16,000 tens, is nearing completion, and is to ply botwiym Liverpool, Queenstown, and Philadelphia, in which service ahe will join, tho Haverford (11,535 tons) in tho coming season. These two vessels are both of the " two class ” typo. Tho Regina and Doric, two fine steamers, each over 16.000 tons cross register, are completing for the White Star-Dominion service, in which they will co-opcrato with tho Meg-antic (14,8/6 tonal, tho Canada (9,472 tons), and tho Valle and Rimonski (the "democratic” dhips, carrying only third class), each with a tonnage'of 9,300. These six ships will provide" a splendid service between England and Canada. Tho total tonnage employed in the White Star Line’s North Atlantic passenger service between England and America, will be more than 330.000, and the average tonnage of the fifteen ' shius mentioned above is over 22.000.
