HIGH SCHOOLS’ GOVERNORS

Dr Fulton presided over tho monthly meeting of the Hoar 'of of the Otago Beys’ and Girls’ High Schools, hold tins afternoon. Tho Registrar of the University of Otago notified the reappointment of Mr T, K. Sidoy, M.P., and Professor Thompson as its representatives on the hoard for tho ensuing year. A letter was read from tho Education Department stating that tho Director of Education would arrive in Dunedin shortly to confer with the board on tho question of tho new site for the erection of a second boys’ school.

REPORTS,

The Rector reported that the total number of hoys_ at present on the school roil was oS4, or whom 157 are seniors, 376 juniors, and Cl paying puoils. The corresponding totals for the past five years (March, 1917-1921) wore respectively 445, 461, 495, 492, aijd 528. The department’s inspectors of secondary schools (Messrs J. Drummond and E. J- Parr) visited the school on Thursday, March 2, their inspection lasting for four- days. All the various forms were visited, and the inspectors once moro expressed their general satisfaction with what th, had seen. He had to report that Mr D. W. Faigan, 8.A., who was recently appointed to tho school staff, duly entered upon his work on March 8. Mr A. T. M'Naughtori, 8.A., the ov~hr master appointed, had, as the board was aware, been taking temporary work with the school since the beginning of the term. Tfe was much indebted to Mr W. W. Bridgman, who had also taken temporary work up to March 7, for the assistance he had rendered.

Tho lady principal reported that tho the total number of girls on. the roll was 452. The work of the school was proceeding as usual, but she was. looking forward to an improvement in the conditions when tho new teachers
