QUEENSLAND STATE LOTTERY

A HITCH SOMEWHERE,

At the Golden Casket head office at Brisbane recently a returned soldier presented the winning ticket, of tho second prize in tho recent casket, but was informed that the prize - copld not be handed over, aa “no cheques were being drawn.” Further inquiries elicited the information that, although tho small prizes wore being paid in cash, largo prizes, which are paid by cheque, signed by Mrs Theodore and Archer Lucas, manager, were being withheld. Pressed for tho reason of this state of affaire, Mr Lucas absolutely declined to discuss tho matter.

Further inquiries into the cause of the apparent deadlock over tho payment of the larger prizes elicited tho information that those whose names are generally pro miner.u in connection with the sweep have not, for some time at least, been exactly a happy family. Tho allegation has been made of attempts at 'undue interference in connection with the office administration, the filling of vacancies, and other matters. These aro said to have become so unbearable that a determined stand has been taken at Casket it is assarted that a plain report has been furnished to tho Minister reviewing the whole position. The relations have become so strained that a deadlock has occurred.

Until the difficulty is overcome—in other words, until the cheques axe signed—-win-ners aro waiting for their money.
