BOWLING

four-rinks final,

AJter three or four postponements finality was reached yesterday afternoon m the four-rinks contest, which has proved of great interest right through the season. The winners of the two sections were St. Clair and Dunedin Clubs, the latter being the holders of the fern trophies which reward tho victors. The deciding .match was played or. Otago green, which, everything taken into consideration, was in excellent order. Both clubs were represented in strength, and tho mother chib had to do its very best to retain possession of the handsome case of gold and silver ferns. In, the early stages Dunedin seemed to have a rather easy task ahead of them, but St. Clair played up pluckily, and two or three heads from home tho issue was in the balance. After seven heads had been played the figures read 51 to 17 in Dunedin’s favor, and this advantage they retained till th-3 fourteenth end, when the score was: Dunedin 60, St. Clair 42. The next few heads saw Dunedin’s lead reduced, but eventually the mother club won the match with a lead of 15 points — 83 to 75. It will be noticed by the detailed scores that only one St. Clair rink was up (Amfcman playing in fine form against Hogg), but two others put up a great contest. J. Seddon and his men could not get going against J. Pietersen and his consistent supporters. At the conclusion of tho game Mr I. A. Peters (president of the Centro Executive) congratulated the players on tho manner in which the game had been contested, and Messrs Jones (St. Clair) and Steel (Dunedin) had a few words to say, expressing appreciation of the spirit in which tho game had been decided. Otago Club members went to a deal of trouble in looking after the visitors’ material comfort. Dofnilflfl CPriVCIS •—•
