FIRE AT HASTINGS
[Per United Puess Association.] HASTINGS. March 15. A fire, at midnieht in buildings on sections leased by theTfbiilway Department in Shtion street gutted Hannahs billiard saloon, Rummer's seedsman <durp, and the Hawko's Uav -Herald' agency olhco. Adjoining premiss on either side, occupied l.v Korscll (boot shop) and (diaries (fruiterer) were slightly damaged. 'J he ricstroved buildings were the property of Mr W. P. Fitzgerald, 'the origin of the fire is unknown. _ . The insurances are: Fitzpalnck, =,I.WJ on the building, billiard tables, and accessories in the Alliance; Kmnmcr, £I,OOO on the stock and iitting.s in the Insurance Office of Australia ; and Charles, £l5O m tho State. [There has been a succession ot tires in "Hastings during the past three weeks which has caused an uneasy feeling in the district that the outbreaks have been caused by the deliberate ads of a. person with a mania in that direction. On Sunday night there was an outbreak in White anil Co.'a wood and coal yard, where 150 bales of pressed hay were stored. Very little damage was done to the building, but the hay was destroyed.]
