At tho sale at Wanganui of the thoroughbred yearlings of Mr G. M. Currie, a colt by Absurd from beta was bought by Mr G. Foulsham (Melbourne) for'l,6oo guineas. Mr A. G. Tyo (Melbourne) paid 1,200 guineas for a colt by Absurd out of Cowl, and another colt by Absurd brought 400 guineas, the purchaser being Mr Ai B. Williams (Poverty Bay). Mr G. D. Greenwood paid guineas for a filly hy Absurd out of Mimique.

Tn exliieition lawn tennis matches at Sydney yesterday Peach (N.S.W.) beat Patterson (Vic.), 7-5, 1-6, 6-3. The annual meeting of the Zingari-Rich-mond Football Club takes place on Monday evening. Particulars are advertised. According to a London cable, Ledoux and 11 arrisou will contest the boxing bantam championship of Europe at Liverpool on April 5. The final Sheffield Shield match of the season began at Adelaide yesterday, the contestants being South Australia and Victoria. The former batted first, and made 150, the chief scorers being Kmulell 45, Townsend 29. Smith 26, and Murray 17. Victoria made 141 without loss of a wicket, the batsmen being Maync 82, and O’Keefe 41.

On Friday last (says the ‘Lake County Press ’) Miss Frances Baird swam .across Lake Hayes, a distance of about threequarters of a mile. We understand that she is the first lady who has accomplished this feat.
