PEARLS FOR THE PRINCESS

Prera Association—By Telegraph—Copyright,

LONDON, February 25.

The Marys of the Empire have given Princess Mary a beautiful rope of pearls. About £B,OOO was subscribed. The Princess at first asked that all the money be given to a philanthropic object, and then expressed the wish that only a few hundred pounds be spent on jewellery for herself, the rest to no devoted to the Girl Guides’ movement,, particularly a training camp for leaders and a hospital camp for girls requiring a rest in the country. The Princess thus hopes to benefit the movement by extending it to all the Dominions and touching the entire girlhood of the Empire. Owing to the general wishes of the (ftibscribcrs, however, the organisers spent considerably more upon a personal present than the Princess suggested. The rope falls to the waist. It is made of beautiful pearls of the same size and color as in the shorter necklet which has been shown in photographs of the Princess.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
