CAE NIVAL WEEK MAUD I GIUA. The committee appointed by the Citizens’ Carnival Executive lo control the “Mardi Gras” on the Wednesday of Carnival Week met yesterday afternoon, the mayor presiding, Representatives were in attendance irom llio Commercial Travellers, Atnletic -»ssociation, and the Otago Motor Club, Mr Slater (representing- the Athletic Association) and Mr Halliday (of the Motor Club) stated that their portion of the programme was complete. Mr Goldsmid mentioned that the prizes for the, trotting events had been donated by the Dunedin Jockey Club, the Eorbury Park Trotting Club, the Otago Hunt Club, the taxi-owners of the city stands, and the Licensed Victuallers’ Association. After conferring with the representatives of the Commercial Travellers’ Association regarding their control of the side shows, it was decided, that a sub-committee, comprising Messrs Lough, Allen, Scott, Goldsmid, Halliday, and Slater, meet at noon to-day and draw up a time programme of the events to bo rim. at Eorbury Park. Mr Lough reported that Mr W. 1 1 . James had agreed to run the sweepstakes, and Mr George Davidson had consented to control the gales. Mr S- Dnnklcy ala led that ho had waited on Mr J. 11, Waigtli, manager of the Co-operative Fruit Growers of Otago, with regard to soliciting donations of fruit, with the result that a circular letter had been addressed to Howards of 300 members. Mr Duukley also stated that Messrs Thomson and Go. had offered to provide all cordials for the day free, Mr M'Kay ices, and Messrs Hudson and Co. ieo cups. In connection with the promenade concert, to bo held at the Drill Hall, the mayor slated that he had received advice that the ‘members of the cruisers would be pleased to participate in a boxing contest; Mr Isaacs, representing the Otago Boxing Association, said that his association would bo pleased to arrange this portion of the programme, —It was agreed that the association should do bo. Mr Iknneil reported that he was arranging for the services of a- band. It was decided that tho mayor should make representation to the naval men to provide the full programme.
