At the resumption of the strike conference the Industrial Federation’s proposals were rejected hy the Chamber of Mines. Judge Cm-lewis thereupon submitted tho following proposals as a basis for further discussion :—That the statutory regulations regarding tho color bar shall remain unaltered, the status quo agreement to be withdrawn as regards low grade mines, in which the ratio of while to colored labor •should bo fixed; Hie strike to be called off, the men returning to work as soon as tho condition of the Various mines justified a resumption of operations, the abolition of tho contract .system; tho reorganising of underground work to be settled by a conference nr Board of.
