MEAT POOL
THE NEXT STEPS,
[From Oue Parliamentary Exporter.]
WELLINGTON, December 21. Further Information regarding the setting up of the moat pool was secured os the result of a question from Mr Forbes to-day. He pointed out to the Prime Minister that tho announcement of the pool has had an unsettling effect on farmers and the moat industry generally. Ho had understood Mr Massey to say that he was uncertain whether the pool could bo started for this season. It would be better to state definitely if the pool was going to start this season, so as to remove the present uncertainty. Mr Massey replied that it is intended to start this season, though it will not be practicable to apply it to arrangements already made, or to bo made within the next fortnight or three weeks. It was intended to consult a representative gathering of producers after tho Christmas and New Year holidays. Mr Forbes : Call it as early as possible, Mr Massey i My information is that It will bo hold on the day the House resumes or the day before. Those who are working with mo in the matter wish to get it in operation for this season; hut it is a very important proposal, and a big scheme which we cannot hurry. We want men in charge who thoroughly understand tho business and have the necessary ability to do tho work. They are not to bo picked up every day. (Hear, hear.)
