A BANGER AND A REVOLVER
(Per United Press Association*.] CHRISTCHURCH, October 12. Two charges of attempted nuude-r against .Tames Bcott Main, Acclimatisation Society’s ranger, were being beard at the Magistrate’s Court to-day. The cases arose out of an affray at Springston on ScptcmI ber 14-, when bullet wounds worn sustained by Bartholomew M’Svedy and Bernard Nut full, the former being wounded in tho wrist and thigh, the latter in the hand. .Medical evidence was given regarding 'the nature of the wounds, which were not serious. M'Evedv staled that he arrived at the hotel at half-past 11 at night in company with his brother. They entered the Vote' and had drinks. They heard a disturbance in the commercial room, and ascertained that Main, who was mad drunk, had been ejected. Later on, outside the hotel, Main held up witness and others-;, with a revolver, saying he would shoot anyone who moved.' Tho revolver was fired, and witness was hit twice and fell to the ground. I Nutta.ll said in his evidence that accused accosted him in the hotel, making offensive- i marks about ladies who were in a motoring party. Witness muonat rat ad. and Mam was removed. Tho heaiinj was proceeding during the afternoon.
