BOWLING

BALMACEWEN CLUB ANNUAL. The annual reports of tho Balmacewen Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club were presented at the annual meeting, at which Mr F. H. Jones presided. The General Committee reported that the financial result of tho year’s operations was on the whole satisfactory. Tho surplus from the billiard table, after providing for light, heating, and repairs to the table, was £37 10s 2d Tho total cost of the alterations and improvements to the pavilion was £205 2s lOd. The liabilities of the club at tho close of the year were £867 14s lid. Two socials were held in the Coronation Hall, one in September last and one in June, while five Saturday evening socials proved a great success. Two honors boards were donated to the club by Mr W. Wright, and those are now erected in the pavilion, providing a permanent record of past presidents and past champions of the club. Tho annual report of the croquet, section stated, inter alia:—The membership of tho croquet section now stands at twentyfive. Keener interest has been taken in the game this year through the tournament, which was held at Punga during Carnival Week. Six members entered, and, though no trophies were brought home, the experience gained has raised tho standard of play. Late” on a few matches were arranged with Punga. The friendly games with tho Outram Club, at Outram and at Balmaecwan, were much enjoyed. At tho request of tho bowlers tho members toured Central Otago and played several games with the Alexandra players. A fair amount of interest was taken in tho ladder matches The vice-president (Mr J. Horn, M.P.) presented a trophy, which was keenly contested for in rounds of handicap games. The successful player was Miss J. K. Brown. Mesdaraes Horn and Millin entertained the members on different occasions.

Tho following were elected officers for the snuing year President, Mr W. 11. Millin ; general secretary, Mr E. 11. Alien ; treasurer, Mr C. Grater; auditor, Mr P. L. Clark. Sectional office-bearers; Bowl-ing—vico-prc&ident, Mr W. H. Millin; secretary, Mr W. .Morrison; committee— Messrs Adams'dn, Glover, Watson, and Wright; solo selector, Mr W. Wright. Tennis section—Vice-president, Mr S. N. BroWn, sen.; secretary, Mr A. M’Millan; committee—Messrs H. Balk, Clark, Stevenson, and Scott; delegates to Otago Lawn Tennis Association—Messrs S. N. Brown, jun., and A. M’Millan. Croquet section—Vice-president, Mr E. Omand; committee—Mesdames Lockhart, Hutcheson, J. W. Jones, and Miss Phinn. Tho retiring president (Mr F. H. Jones) took the opportunity of saying farewell to Mr D. Bennie (who was present, and has now taken up his residence in Balclutha), and also presented him with a gold medal (donated by Mr R. Adamson) for his efforts in procuring the greatest number of new members during tho past year.
