WIFE AND FIVE CHILDREN ESCAPE. [Pen United Puess Association] ASHBURTON, September 13. , A five-roomed house occupied by Mr W, J, Varcoe, farmer, at Lagbmor, wan completely destroyed by fire loot night, Mr Varcoo was in Christchurch, hut hie wife and five small sons, aged up to nine years, alarmed by tho fire, escaped only' wit-i their night attire. Tho house belonged to Mr Cecil Doig, and was insured for £7OO.
