GRAND AND PLAZA

A new three-hour programme commenced at the Grand and Plaza this afternoon. The firstgfeature. is The Luck of the Irish,’ starring James Kirkwood and Anna Q. Nillson. It is an adaptation of Harold M'Grath’s story _ of the same name. It deals with the life of William Gromm, a voung plumber of the lower East Side of New York. Most of his time is spent in the basement of the plumber’s shop From a small window which is on the level with the street he sees the multitude of feet as they pass by. He speculates as to who are the owners of the feet, and their occupations, and what they look like. One particular pair of feet attracts his attention, and he comes to the conclusion that the feet belong to a school teacher. William Grogan is a day dreamer, and his greatest ambition is to see the world. By an unforeseen circumstance he falls heir to a fortune, and when the money comes into his possession he decides to make a tour of the world. It is on this trip that he meets the owner of the long-watched pair of feet. She, too, is a member of the touring party. Grogan looks upon this as an act of Providence, and proceeds to appoint himself the young lady’s protector. ‘The Luck of the Irish’ abounds in mystery, adventure, and romance, and moves from New York to Gibraltar, Venice, Naples, Cairo, Singapore. On the same bill is Madge Kennedy in ‘ Strictly Confidential,’ a Goldwyn picture. There are also minor attractions.
