RUGBY. THE CORNSTALKS’ TOUR. Tho New Soutlr Wales Rugby Union footballers were passengers' by tho Ulimaroa, which reached Sydney .yesterday. Mr Bosward, manager, referring to the allegations of rough play by the New South Wales team ur tho Wellington match, alleged that tho Wellington papers made a mountain out of a molehill. There was only the slightest friction during tho game, which was confined to the frontrow forwards in both team?. Such friction was likely to occur in any hardfought match. During a stoppage in tho game he asked tho players in a fatherly manner to maintain their sporting reputation. There had been a couple of swings, and ho wanted to prevent serious ill-feel-ing. Roberts (half-back) was not a victim of foul play. The truth was that all Wellington was worrying lest ho should bo hurt and prevented from playing against tho Springboks in the ensuing test. Mr Bosward added that there had not been a decline in tho standard of Rugby football in New Zealand. The fact'that New South Wales won all their matches with tho exception of one he attributed to wonderful team work. The loss of tho Wellington match was duo to somo players becoming stale owing to lameness. ~*O.R.FTJ~ The weekly meeting of the executive of the Otago Rugby Union was hold last evening. The president (Mr H. Hams) occupied tho chair. , Applications for transfers were noted on behalf of J.. Delahunty, from Kaikorai to Dunedin; M. Malhieson, from Union to Zingari-Ricbmond; E. C. In regard to an application for affiliation by "the Y.M.C.A., it was resolved that in tho committee’s opinion there aro quite sufficient clubs at present in Dunedin for the number of players offering, and for this reason tho admission of anymore clubs in not favored. In view of the coining cricket season the meeting resolved to take immediate stops to improve the surface on the Carisbrook Ground.

Evans, who was not then fit to play, resumes his old place as custodian. G. R. Wilson fright wing-three-quarter) has been dropped, hut will seemingly play in place of H. Mullins, who, owing to injuries, will probably bo unable to take the field. H. Dailey has been shifted to the wing in place of Wilson, and is replaced at centre by Blazey, a good spoiling back, but one who has vet to prove himself on attack. W. Dailey's injury prevents his taking his position behind tho scrum, which has been filled by the Linwood half-back, Burson. In the forwards Murray is not available, and Turpin who played a splendid game last Saturday, fills the vacancy. Bill Cummings is fit to play again, and his inclusion should strengthen the pack. ‘ THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE. At the meeting of the Management Committee of the Wanganui Rugby Union tonight a motion waa unanimously passed affirming that the union considers that Mr J. M'eLod, president of the New Zealand Union, should he a member of the New Zealand delegation to the conference at Sydney with New South Wales and South Africa. ASSOCIATION. O.F.A. Ati- E. J. Anderson presided over the weekly meeting of the executive of the Otago Football Association held last night. Mr Pike, who acted as referee, reported on tho match, and mentioned two or three instances in which ho ’■had to caution players. Kennedy _ said to his team, after grumbling at a decision, that they should “put in the dirt,” and was ordered off the ground.
