CHRISTMAS TOURNEY AT ADELAIDE.
Mr W. G. Hay presided at the annual meeting of delegates to the Dunedin Bowling Centre on Saturday evening. The Chairman mentioned that some correspotidoncc had been forwarded by the New Zealand Bowling Association in regard to a tournament to be held at Adelaide at Christmas time. The Dunedin Centre was asked to forward names of sixteen or seventeen players who could make the trip. It was desired that the centre should do everything possible to ensure the sending of a strong team (six-teen-twenty players) to represent the Dominion. A copy of the programme was also forwarded. A lost match between Australia and New Zealand was included,' also matches between each of tho Commonwealth States and tho Dominion.—Tho President said the matter had been considered by the executive, and it had been decided to bring it forward at the meeting. The programme and correspondence were being summarised and forwarded to clubs with a view to. their forwarding names.—The correspondence was received and the action of the executive approved.
In 1 moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, tho Chairman said he thought it safe to say that on the whole they had had a very successful year. They had managed, owing to the exceptionally good weather experienced, to pet through the matches with promptitude. During tho year there had been a slight increase in "the number of bowlers. The financial statement showed that there was a credit of £49 9s Id, In connection with the finances he would point out that the 1 centre was working practically on the profit realised from the annual tournament. This year it was about £6O. Apart from tho tournament, he was afraid that the centre was not paying its way, and it might be necessary for, the incoming executive to increase the levy on clubs. There would ha a good deal’of entertaining to do, a team from South Africa and a team from New South Wales beimr definite visitors; while there was a possibility of a team from England also visiting tho Dominion. He expressed pleasure that tho New Zealand team at Home at the present time was worthily upholding the honor of the Dominion. The Easter tournament, as he had already said, had been a success financially, and it bad also be a success from the point of view of play, though the weather had been very bad at the time, and they were fortunate in getting through it as they did. In conclusion. Mr Hay referred to the successful inauguration of interprnvincial matches. The match with Canterbury was practically an assured annual fixture, and Southland bad come forward on its own motion, a match against a team from that part also taking place. The team that went to Christchurch also played a match at Timaru. where they were cordially received and entertained. The report was adopted with little discussion. The following nominations were agreed noon as recommendations for office on the New Zealand Council President. Mr W. Nicholson; hon. treasurer, Mr H E. M Mercer: delegates—Messrs J. J. Marlow-, J. L. Glover, and J. H. Hancock; auditors, Messrs C, Grater and J. G. Patterson.
The Chairman said that the next meeting of delegates would take place on July 26. , . , „ Notice of motion has been given by Mr T. T. Grant, president of tho On tram Chib, to establish a New Zealand bowlers’ scholarship for the benefit of a bona fide bowler’s child. He pointed but in a letter that there were 12.000 bowlers ip the Dominion, and if a mint-nnm subscription of Is were provided £6OO could be collected in the firsfyear. It might take two rears to collect sufficient money for the interest to provide a decent scholarship, but as time went on and funds accumulated the amount of the scholarship could be increased, or two scholarships (one for a bnv and one for a girl) could be provided.
