AUSTRALASIAN TEAM FOR BRITAIN. The Australasian Rugby League team to tour Great Britain baa been selected as follows (reports a Sydney cable) :—Fullback, Frazer; three-quarters—Herder, Craig Blinkborn, Vest, Rule, Peters. Cubitt, Carstairs,' Norman (New South Wales), Brown (Queensland); five-eighths —Caples (New South Wales), Laing (New Zealand) ; halves—Thompson, Johnston (New South Wales); forwards—Watkins, Gray, Townsend, Schulte, Pcarcc, F. Barge, M’Grath, Ives, Ryan, Prentice (New South Wales), Richards, Potter (Queensland). [The team comprise,, twonty-threo players from Now South Wales, three from Queensland, and ono from Now Zealand.] n REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. A smoke (social was held by the Otago Rugby Referees’ Association last evening in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Stuart street. The fathering was representative of all branches of sport, there being over a hundred present. Air F. Foster (president of the Referees’ Association) presided, and among those present were the mayor (Mr J. S. Douglas), Mr H. Harris (president of the Otago Rugby Union), and many other gentlemen closely connected with the various branches of spqrt. The toast of the " O.R.F.U. ” was proposed by Mr G. Restieaux, who said that the Rugby Union was deserving of all Hie credit which could lie given to it. Sometimes one heard of isolated instances of grumbling, but th as were generally without foundation. Ho personally was convinced that the members of the Rugby Union were imbued with one aim, and that was the furthering of the grand old game, of which they were all so fond. Messrs Harris, Cavanagh, Bringana, Cook, Styche, and M'Donald replied to the toast. Messrs Foster and Rostieanx replied to the toast of “The Referees’ Association,” Both speakers stated that although referees occasionally had a lot to put np with, there was a great deal of pleasure to he got out of officiating, and the wonder was that mw ex-playcrs did not become referees. A lengthy toast list included “Local Club anil Kindred Sports,” “Lady Supporters,” and “The Performers.” Musical items were contributed by Messrs W, Duff, J. Himburg, S. Jeffs, 11. C. Williamson, F. Pringle, A. F. Graham, Uridgo Brothers, and J. S. Douglas. Mr Storey was tho accompanist.
