SCOUT NOTES

All communications to he addressed to "Kiwi," 'titar ’ Office, before ffiSO j>.m. Mondays, The Ocean Beach Troop had a splendid muster on Wednesday, the 15th, there being two officers and twenty-one Scouts on parade. As the Scoutmaster believes a small troop the best, only three patrols are run. Immediately after call the patrol leaders took charge for signalling, good progress being reported. Ihe tioop leader took the second-class trainees in ambulance. At 7.30 p.m. the D.C. arrived. He gave the command, ‘ Carry on, leaders,” and watched the various patrols working. After inspection the D.C. expressed his pleasure at seeing such a good muster. A word of advice to tho leaders and a short talk to the troop concluded his visit, he _ being farewellod in true Scout fashion, with our stirring hnkiv. A meeting of leaders and seconds was held after tho parade to make arrangements for tho social. The troop has gained another scoutmaster in Mr Callender. Leader Lister has gained his second-class badge. The St. Clair. Presbyterian Troop had a glorious muster on Friday evening last. The District Commander jj-.icl his farewell visit of inspection. He. gave uselul information to the squad, who are entering for the signalling competition. The D.C. complimented the troop upon the cleanliness, smartness, and keenness of all ranks, advised the patrol leaders and seconds on their duties, and appealed to all ranks to “[Stick it” and to “Play the man.” Tho troop showed appreciation with throe, rousing cheers. Mr Pascoe was present with the ambulance patrol. Troop Lender Gallagher (Ocean Beech) gave considerable help to the Scoutmaster, while Mr Brugh instructed the shooting team.

At the second quarterly meeting of the Parents’ Committee of the Ocean Beach Troop, held in the troop headquarters, St. Kilda. on Juno 16. there were present the Rev. It was resolved to hold the annual social and presentation of prizes on Saturday, July 2, 1921, instead of as previously decided, Air Gilmour and the Scout mashT to be responsible for the programme. !he treasurer reported having donated 10s to the trustees of the churen and expending £1 on a football for the troop team. Tim Scoutmaster reported having had better average attendances lately and a keener interest taken by the troop in its work. An investigation was made into a complaint from the church steward regarding the ill-use of the hall: but it was proved that the Scouts were not the responsible parties. Friday evening at the Roslyn headquarters was entirely devoted to patrol work under the Scoutmaster’s supervision. This troop, although working steadily, is greatly handicapped for waul of space. Still, twentyfour members, all “ns keen ns mustard, are on parade every week, which means that the movement is still kept alive on the hill. Tlie competition which decide? tiie most efficient Scout of the year has now commenced, and several Scouts arc already in the lead with snecial marks for elite iency. It promises to be a keen race lor the troop medal this year. The Y.AI.C.A. Troop at. their meeting on Monday, the 13th inst., worked hard at ambulance and signalling. An effort is being made to obtain the’ services of an instructor in fire drill. The boy? are keen on the work, benefiting by if both morally and physically. Thev would like to see all boys allowed to joint the great brotherhood/ After parade a much-appreciated cup of cocoa and some biscuits were partaken of.
