HOSPITAL BOARD
The monthly meeting of tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held last evening, and attendee! by Mr W. E. S. Knight (chairman), Dr Newlands, Heart ames Jackson, Madio, and Macdonald, (Messrs W. T. Talboys, R. Templeton, J. \V. (Dove, R, A. Rodger, A. F. Quelch, and D. Larnach. On tho motion of tho chairman it was decided—That this board places on record its best thanks for the services rendered by members of the recent Ka.itan gat a Hospital Committee. The assistance cf these gentlemen has been given with every cheerfulness, and the splendid reports which have been received from to time of the manner in which tills hospital war, conducted and the high state of efficiency maintained reflects on tho committee for the care and attention bestowed_in carrying out its work. The board sincerely 'regrets having now to sever its official connection’ with these members.’’ It was further decided—“ Tkat in view of the services of (Mrs Clements, matron, Kaitangata Hospital, having automatically passed from the control of this board to the South Otago Board, the Otago Hospital Board desires to record its appreciation of the excellent work carried on by Mrs Clemente during the past twelve years she has been matron of that institution, and regrets losing her services, _ but fcols sure that the South Otago Hospital Board will benefit by her long experience. Professor Jack wrote accepting appointment a.s honorary physicist. The Town Clerk, Palmerston, wrote that, in the opinion of his council, tho district would bo amply served in tho meantime if a district nurse were appointed, thereby saving a considerable sum of money that would bo required for tho purchase of a suitable building, with salaries, and general upkeep of tho proposed maternity hospital. Tho writer forwarded a copy of a letter sent to tho district health' officer in March embodying the above opinion, and stating that none of tho councillors had hoard of any, fatality or case of hardship caused by tho absence of such an institution. —Referred to the Finance Committed. Tho Hon. G. M. Thomson wrote that a proposal to start religious services on Sunday mornings in connection with tho hospital nurses had come before tho session of Knox Church, Tho services would bo under the immediate care of the Rov._ A. W. Kinmont, and would be undenominational. —The Medical Superintendent, reporting on tho matter, said that tho matron agreed with him that tho Sunday morning ward work could bo so arranged as to allow a proportion of the nurses on duty being spared to enable them to attend such services. Tho matter of nurses off dutv attending was a personal matter, and did not require tho permission of the beard. —/Improved. Fifty applications were received for tho position of bookkeeper (male) for the stores department and to assist with general accounts, at a salary at the rate of £203 per annum.—Referred to a sub-com-mittee to select twelve names for the consideration of tho Financo Committee.
