SOCIETY’S MEETING. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Dunedin branch of tho Royal Now Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children was held in tho Plunkct Rooms yesterday ; present—Mcsdames Johnstone .(in the chair), Theomin, Cunninghamc, Isaacs, Arundel, Solomon, O'Noill, Kelly, Carmalt Jones, Jos. M'George, Maudcno, Ansoll-Hodaon, Callaway, Sister Nora, tho Misses Reid, Joachim, and (ho secretary. HOtU’ITAL REPORT. The matron of the Karitane-Hanis Hospital reported for the month ended may 31:—Number of patients in hospital on April 50 —mothers 3, babies IS ; number of patients admitted during the monel)— mothers 10, names 16; number of patients discharged during month—mothers mimes is; greatest number of patients in residence on any one day—mothers 5. babies 16; number of patients, in hospital on May 51—mothers 4, babies 14. 1 regret to report the death of one baby, admitted to Uio hospital on May 2i in a dying condition, duo to malnutrition. The baby died seventeen hours after admission. The resident fueler mother has been a great help in saving the lives of iw>, babies admitted iu an advanced state of starvation, who arc now improving steadily. Two other babies, one being below its birthweight at nine weeks and one only IJlb over its birthweight at nine weeks, 'have both gained l.Ub in one month. All babies in the hospital are progressing well. Number of Plunket nurses in training, 10; number of Karitain; nurses in training, 10. Nurses and Foster commenced the course of Plunket training during the month, and N ms..M, Smith and C, Smith commenced tho course of Karitane , training. Plunket Nurses Manning, Williams, MWhirtcr, Bowron, and M'Kibhin and Raritano Nurses Eldrcd and Thompson completed the course of training. Sister Bnisson has taken tho place on the hospital stall of Sister Jones, who returned to Australia, Sister Sturgeon has sent in her resignation as sister in charge of nurseries, on account of ill-health. Gifts wore received during the month from Mesdamcs Theomin, Moore, and Rattray and tho Westport Coal Company. PLUNKET NURSES’ REPORTS. Tho Plunkct nurses for North and Central Dunedin districts reported as under for the month of May;—Number of babies on the list, 255; number of babies breastfed (including partly), 94 ; number of new cases for' the month (babies only), 20; number of visits to homes, 461; number of visits paid to Plunket rooms, Stuart street, 522; number of bottles of humanised milk sent out from the Taicri Dairy, 9,643. The Plunket nurse for South Dunedin district reported ; —Number of babies on tho list, 385; number of babies breast-fed (including partly), 72; number of new cases for tho month (babies only), 15; number of visits paid to homes, 226; number of visits to Plunket rooms, King Edward street, South Dunedin, 264. ; The Plunkct nurse for Anderson Bay and outstations reported.:—Number of babies on the list, 83; number'of babies breast-fed (including partly), 31; number of new cases for the month (babies only), 11; number of visits paid to homes, 182; number of visits to Plunket rooms, Mosgiel, 26; number of visits to Plunket rooms, Port Chalmers, 59. During the month tho following outstations were visited; —Mosgiel, five times; Wingatui. twice; Abbotsford, twice; Green Island, once; Burnside, once; Ravensbourno, four times; Port Chalmers, five times; Portobello. three times; and Henley, once The nurses reported that there had beeu a number of cases of sickness during the month among the babies under their care, gastric influenza being prevalent. ANNUAL MEETING. Tho animal meeting 'of tho Dunedin branch of the society is to he held in the Council Chambers, on Thurs- !' day, June 23, at 4 p.m., The RevI A.
