(Received Juno 16, at 10.45 a.m.) Cabinet has decided to refuse the request of the farmers tp establish a private wheat pool for the next crop. If the pool system is continued it will be under Govern ment control. MELBOURNE, June 16. Mr D. S. Oman,-Minister of Agriculture in the State Parliament, replying _to a deputation representing the wheat interests, said that he favored control of wheat reverting to the commercial community at the earliest opportunity. He added that there could be no pool without Government control. COMMONWEALTH CENSUS. MELBOURNE, June 16. (Received June 16, at 10.45 a.m.). The interim census figures show the population of tho Commonwealth to be 5,500,000. The figures for New South Wales aro 1,068,000; Vicuna, 754,000; Queensland, 398,000; So th WtraHa 247,000; West Australia, 175,000; Tasmania, 107,000. .These figures entitle New South Wales to an additional seat in the House of Representatives at the expenso of Victoria. PRICE OF MILK SYDNEY, June 16. The price of milk has been further increased to 9d per quart. THE TARIFF DEBATE. MELBOURNE, June 16. (Received June 16, at 11 a.m.) In the House of Representatives the tariff debate is dragging along. A combination of Government and Labor forces crushed out a series of amendments embodying concessions sought by the Country Party.
