ROYAL ASCOT. HECTOR GRAY’S SUCCESSFUL INTRODUCTION. Hector Gray (the New Zealand jockey), in his first mount in England, won the Ascot Stakes, 2rn, on Sir H. CunhtfeOwen’s Spearwort, 4jrs, by Spearmint— Monisima. He also rode the winner of the Queen Mary Stakes, LOOOsovs, for iwo wear-old fillies, sf. This was Sir FI. Cunliffe-Owen’s Morning Light, by Sunetar—Desmodinni. TROTTING. [Special to the ‘Star.’] CHRISTCHURCH, June 16. At a meeting of the Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders’ Association it was reported that the special horse train to Dunedin on May 3, in connection with the Forbury Park Winter Meeting, bad resulted in,a loss of £llO 4s 7d. It was decided that the club be asked to forward to the association £IOO, being the amount of its guarantee. The following donations were received in response to the appeal tor Mrs M. Edwards :—Forbury Park, £25; Otalumu. £2O; Wellington, £lO. It was decided to hold a- trotting meeting on October 8 in aid of the blind soldiers’ and Nurse Maude funds. A deputation was appointed to wait on the New Zealand Trotting Conference to advocate that the various clubs of the Dominion be allowed to uso their own starting system. MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING. The Mornington and Rosiyn Clubs met 4 in the fourth round on the Central Range, when the former team won by four points. Scores are as follows: Morninston. —M‘Donakl, Burgess, Wilson, and Boardman 68, M'Aufilin and Berry 67, Agnew, Graham, and Hobbs 65, Pickard 64; total, 665, Rosiyn.—Edwards 69, Marshall, Callis, and Ansell 67, Spence, Turnbull, and Silvias 66, Hay aud Mills 60, Armit 63; total, 661.
