(Received February 25, at 11 a.m.) Union officials who have been consulted regarding the general strike suggestion describe it as madness. It would inevitably prove a failure, 'The State Ministers are not perturbed, believing tho proposal to be “hot air” on behalf of tho extremists, who arc effectively separated from most of tho positions of authority in the Labor movement, ALL-UNIONS REPORT ADOPTED. MELBOURNE, February 25. (Received February 25, at 11 a.m.) The Labor Council adopted tho report of tho Melbourne Conference, and decided to form twelve industrial groups along tho lines suggested. THE SHIPPING DISPUTE, SETTLEMENT BELIEVED TO BE IMMINENT. SATISFACTORY GUARANTEES FORTHCOMING. MELBOURNE, February 25. (Received February 25, at 11 a.m.) There seems little doubt that a settlement of the shipping dispute will _be reached to-day, tho probable terms being that all the ships in the dispute, excepting seven steamers, which previously carried twenty-seven men, will be manned forthwith. A tribunal is to sit immediately to decide whether twenty-seven men shall bo carried or not. It is stated that absolute guarantees are to l>o given that “job control” will bo abolished, continuity of work guaranteed, and that tho arbitration awards agreement will bo strictly observed by both parties.
