FRUIT AND PRODUCE
Messrs Bray Bros, (of'Dimedin), Ltd., report as follows for the week : Only small consignments of chaff are coming to hand., and the demand is weak. The good quality is Belling at from £7 10s to £B. The oat market continues in a very dull condition, and practically no sale is passing. B Gartons are quoted about 3s 4d, f.o.b.s.i. Very little business is doing in the wheat market, and no fowl wheat is available. Old potatoes are a glut on the market, and offering at 30s to £2 a ton. Auckland new potatoes are also in full, supply, but the quality is poor and prices are low, the demand for local grown. There is still a good supply of Melbourne onions offering, but thevshipping being held up, there is likely to be a shortage unless the Paloona is able to get away from Melbourne. During the week business has'been very brisk in fruit marts, and all lines of good sound fruit have been realising good prices, with the exception of apples. Heavy consignments of Stunners have been coming forward, and owing to the poor quality these have had to be forced on the market at reduced prices which proves a loss to consignors. Strawberries have been short of supply, most of the large growers having lost the best part of their crops owing to the lats hailstorms, and all coming forward have been keenly competed for. Cherries have been in lair supply, and apricots and peaches are now offering on the market. Tomatoes are now coming forward in larger' quantities, and prices have eased. Most lines of vegetables sre offering, and prices moderate. Peas have been in full supply, and sold as low as 2£d a lb. Hothouse cucumbers realised from 18s to 24s a dozen. There has been a shortage of bananas during the Christmas holidays: High prices have been ruling for these in the North. There is a good supply of eggs, hams, bacon, cheese, honey, and dairy pat butter. The following prices' were realised during the week Quotations : Sparrowbill oats, ss. Oats, 4s to 4s 6d.
