At the Women Teachers' Association Conference to-day a resolution was passed that infant departments be as liberally staffed as if they were separate schools. Delegates protested that by reason o{ the investigation system and the advantage bonus system teachers with dependents were really penalised. Miss Coad said It was a fact that single men received the same bonu3 as married men, independent of family responsibilities. Why should a different principle b» applied to women teachers? It was reported that the association ii doing good work sweeping away the lines of demarcation in the various grades of the service. A remit "that in all new infant school buildings provision should be 'made for asfierably halls, separate cloak U66rns, start and luncheon rooms, and windows in keeping with modern ideals for infant teaching, • was passed. It was also resolved that, in place of the present inadequate £5 grant for Moniesson material, the department should manufacture such Montessprf apparatus as suits New Zealand's conditions, and sup* Ely it to all infant schools recommended y the inspectors.
