•BAILWAYMEN’S DEMANDS. „ „ CHRISTCHURCH, December 22. Mr Hampton, president of the National Executive of tlio A.S.E.S., has returned to Christchurch after attending the interview between the executive and the Prime. Minister in Wellington in regard to the bonus. He states that they were promised a reply after Mr Massey had consulted Cabinet. At a meeting of the Addington Workshops employees it was resolved—- “ That this mass meeting is strongly of the opinion that the time has arrived for our executive to demand ah increase of wages, so as to bring our earnings into line with pre-war' rates. We cannot fail to notice the vast difference > in the increased salaries of highly-paid officials, such as Judges, they receiving no less than a £lO per week increase, whereas wage-earners are granted the princely sum of 3s. Failing a satisfactory reply from the Government within a reasonable period, the executive is requested to take a ballot of the members with a view to drastic action being taken in conjunction with other federated unions.” A copy of this resolution is to be forn aided to all brandies of the society, requesting them to urge the executive to take immediate action.
