THAT BONUS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In to-night’s leader you say that the men have a slight advantage in the adjustment of the bonus. Is this quite correct? The Court has decided that the corrected bonus for the period ended September 30 is 7s; that the three bonuses amount to 15s; but that as we are being paid 10s, the bonus payable is ss. As however, we have been overpaid 2s from January 1 to October 31, it is proposed to deduct 2s, making the bonus 3s for the next six months. Now, 2s per week from January 1 to October 31, a period of fortythree weeks, equals £4 6s overpaid. The corrected bonus, 7s per week for six months, equals £9 2s. Wo are to get 3s for that period, or £3 18s. This, added to £4 6s overpaid, makes a sum of £8 4s we shall get,_ instead of £9 2s —the 7s bonus. To equalise matters the* bonus should be 3s Bd. . « Again, the employers have already passed on the 2s, with “ considerable profit thereon,” so that they not only get their 2s refunded with profit, but now have to get another 2s refunded out of the 5s bonus If I am correct, where does the men’s advantage lie? I am afraid, sir, the bonuses have little to do with the high prices. It is the “considerable profit thereon,” the “automatic profiteering,’.’ mentioned by the president, that make them soar.—l am, etc., Worker. [Our correspondent practically argues that the 2s is deducted twice; but this is not the case. The only deduction for six months to come is 2s, overpaid for ten months before.—Ed. E.S.]
