Or J. S. Douglas, who wits confined to his bed for the best part of a week, is now able to get about. An announcement that he is sending his resignation to the Auckland Presbytery has been made by tho Rev. Isaac Jolly, minister of St. Stephen’s Church, Ponsonby, Auckland. Tho reason given by Mr Jolly is that for about three years he has been suffering badly from neuritis. In a statement he said that, having tried nearly everything that could be thought of, his medical advisers said the only thing left was a long rest and a change. At his time of life (for he is sixty-eight years of age) he thought he would be making a mistake to take a holiday and then return <%o the church, as the Kirk Session had asked Mm to do. Ho thought it would he a mistake, both for himself and for the congregation, and therefore his resignation was going in to tho Presbytery the next day. Mr Jolly will celebrate his sixty-ninth birthday in February next. He has been thirty-three years in the ministry, and was for six years prior to that engaged in home mission, work in Glasgow. ,He is'a graduate of Glasgow University. He has been minister of St. 'Stephens Church for eleven years, has been Moderator of the Auckland Presbytery, and also Moderator of the New Zealand General Assembly. At the meeting of tho Board of Management of the King Edward Technical College yesterday Mr O’Keefe and Miss Hutton were reappointed as instructors at the ■School of Art, which is now controlled by the board. The positions of head of the art department and instructor in applied art are not likely to be filled till January. Mr J. R. Samson, Director of Repatriation, was a passenger by the second express this morning for Wellington. Mr T. K. Sidey, M.P., left by the second express this morning for Wellington, and will return to Dunedin at the end of the week. Mr and Mrs Harold Browning left Dunedin this morning for Wellington to join the Eemuera, en route for England, and will probably be absent for about a year. They were accompanied by Miss Rita Isaacs, who is going to visit her brother in London. Lieutenant-colonel Chesney, Major Henderson, and Captain Brocks were passengers on; the second express for the north this morning, on their way to Wellington. The following promotions and appointments in the Public Trust Office are announced :—Mr P. A. Macomish, divisional accountant, _ head office; Mr C. A. Carmine, divisional accountant, head office; Mr F. W. Browne, divisional accountant, head office; Mr K. J. Caverhill, divisional accountant, head office; Mr A. R. M'Neilly, district account, Hawera; Mr K- C. Stockman, district accountant, Gisborne; Air B. W, Banks, assistant accountant, head office.

The Hon. J. G, Coates (Minister of Public Works) will spend a month in the South Island, commencing his tour in the third week of January. The Rev. George Budd, the newly-ap-pointed superintendent of Home Missions for the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand, leaves for Australia towards the end of the month, chiefly with the idea of discussing with the leaders of the church there matters pertaining to h<sme mission work. It is the reverend gentleman’s first visit beyond the confines of his own country, and he does not expect to return till the end of January.
