SUPREME COURT

His Honor Mr Justice Sim presided in the Supreme Court this morning. CRIMINAL OFFENCES. Arahura Waipounamu Kiui, who had pleaded guilty in the Lower Court to a charge of attempted rape at Biverton, was brought up for sentence. —Mr W. G. Hay (for the prisoner) said that Kini was a full-blooded Maori, and was about 23 years of age. The cause of the trouble was drink. Prisoner, who confessed to the charge on arrest, saw active service.— The Crown Prosecutor (Mr A. S. Adams) pointed out that it was a desperate attempt to commit a serious offence. —His Honor said, in view of what the police said about prisoner, he thought the best course would be to put him under the control of the Piyions Board. Prisoner would be ordered to be detained for reformative purposes for a term of not mora than three years. Leonard George Robertson, who had pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking and entering and theft at Dunedin, was next brought up for sentence.—His Honor said that prisoner had a bad record. He would be ordered to be detained for reformative purposes for a term of not more than five years. CHAMBERS SITTING. Probate was granted in the estates of George Boss, William Edward M'Adam, David Ross, Jemina Perry, and George Braid. Letters of administration -were granted in the estates of William* Garrick and William Clack. In the matter of the Settled Land Act and the will of James Stewart (deceased) —a motion for direction as to service—• it was directed that a copy of petition be served as suggented. Re the will of William M'Lean, jun., deceased.—Motion to purchase property. —An order was made accordingly, subject to the consent of the Public Trustee being filed, he to be appointed sole trustee in the place of the present trustees. Perpetual Trustees, Estate, and Agency Co. and others v. Jones and others.—A Summons to confirm the registrar's report and for leave to sell land by auction.— An order was made in terms of the L amended summons.
