BOXING
A London, cable advises that' Lewis defeated Baeham in the 19th.round. The local tournament opens on Wednesday at His Majesty's Theatre with the interprovincial championships between Otago and Southland. This fixture is sure Ito draw a full house. The Otago Boxing Association met this morning and appointed the following officials:—Referee,Mr J. Kilmartin; judges, Messrs C. Batt and J. Gawne; timekeepers, Messrs Isaacs and Marshall; official eeconds, Messrs Romerill and Higginson ; and Mr H. H. White, M.C. There will be three curtainraisers for the Uren-Evans contest. Uren gave a pleasing exhibition of sparring on Saturday afternoon at G. Davis's rooms, and to-morrow afternoon at 3 Digger Evans will be seen training at Fullers' Hall. The Digger has an interesting history as a boxer. He started aboard the troopship on the way to Egypt in 1916. He won tournaments while in England and France, and, developing his powers with wonderful success, he won both the bantam and feather-weight championships of the A.1.F., and was never beaten. He is what can be described as a returned fighter. There was a good inquiry 'for reserves at The Bristol when the box plan opened this morning.
