SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY

The anniversary services in connection with the United Congregational Sunday School were held last Sunday. The morning service was conducted by the Eev. E. A. Axdsen, who delivered a most interesting address, that was listened to with rapt attention by both young and old. In the afternoon the ReV. G. H. Jupp, who has rare qualifications for speaking to young people, gave a most interesting and inspiring address from the words “Jonah paid his fare.” In the evening the Rev. R. E. Fordyce addressed a large audience of parents and friends, and emphasised the importance of parents attending the house of God, and so setting a worthy example to their children. A large choir of scholars rendered special music at each of the services. On Thursday evening the annual tea and entertainment was held, and proved a great success, the church being taxed to the utmost capacity. The entertainment was presided over by Mr J. H. Wilkinson, superintendent of the school, who, in a brief address on behalf of the teacliers, heartily thanked all those who by their presence showed their interest in the welfare of the school. During the evening the school choir (trained by Mr Joseph Abernethy), with Mr Ron. Abetnethy as organist and Mr G. E. Wilkinson as pianist, contributed several pleasing items. Solos were given by Misses Elsie Gould, Gloria Marks, Violet Cameron, and by Masters Charlie Barton and Albert Twose. Several action songs by boys and girls were very effective. Rita Jennings, Rita Etheridge, Olive Meinung, and Ivy Smith contributed recitations, and other items were: A pianoforte solo by Mies Fraser; pianoforte duet by Jessie and Willie Abernethy; duet by Winnie and Frank Dyer; trio by Arthur Jennings, Colin Oliver, and Arthur Dyer; flute solo by Gordon Findlay; instrumental trio by Mr and Misses Thomas, The accompanists" were Misses Barton and Throp and Mesdames Oliver and Jennings,
