OTAGO CRICKET LEAGUE

The annual meeting of the Otago Cricket League was held last Monday night in the Y.M.C.A. rooms, when the president (Mr A. Melville) presided, and welcomed a good muster of delegates. In moving the adoption of t-he-'-annual report the Chairman said he was pleased to bo able to congratulate members on a most successful season. The war had affected cricket, as well- as most other things, and last season's activities showed that the game was coming back to its own once more. The Baker cup competition had provided a very close and interesting contest, resulting in a victory for Hillside C.C. by 2 points, with Railway second, 1 point ahead of Reid and Gray's. During the season a team representing the league had met a team from the North Otago Association, when a keen and enjoyable game resulted in a win for the visitors by 52 runs on the first innings. It was hoped that during the coming season representative games would be arranged with North Otago and also with the Christchurch City and Suburban Association. At the end of last season an enjoyable smoke social was held, when close on 100 wero present. The thanks of the. committee are due to Mr J. A. Park for presiding,, and to the artists who contributed to the programme. The balance-sheet presented was very encouraging, a substantial credit balance being carried forward.

The minutes of the previous meeting and the balance-sheet havinn- been adopted, Mr Melville intimated a desire to vacate the position of president, explaining that his time was so fully occupied that he felt he could not do justice to the position.

Mr Melville's resignation was accepted with regret, and Mr D. C. Cameron, jun., was elected president for the ensuing reason.

Tho other offices were filled as follows : —Patrons, His Worship the Mayor and Mr J. A. Park; G. Gray, Mr W. M'Kenzie, Mr P. Shacklock, Mr F. T. Williams, Mr A. Paine, and Mr A. Melville; secretary-treasurer, Mr H. Murrow; auditors, Messrs E. C. Laley and P. J. Bond; trustees, Messrs D. C. Cameron, jun.. and A. Paine; committee Messrs Berland, Pinder, Hodge, Swinney, M'Donald, and Barnbury ; Match Committee—Messrs Berland and Pinder and secretary. It was decided to open the season en Saturday, October 30, the Match Committee to arrange the draw. A _ vote of thanks to the chair and retiring officers concluded a very successful meeting.
