WASHINGTON.. October 14. (Received October 15, at 9.20 a.m.) The Navy Department lias issued confidential correspondence- regarding the. killing of Haitian natives as reported in October. 1919. Major-general Barnett, ex . command-vnt of the "United •States Marines, reported that at the court martial the evidence showed that there had been indiscriminate killing of natives by American marines for some time. General Barnett also stated that some, marines were sadly lacking in the .sense of right and justice. Stringent orders had been issued to provent a repetition of the abuses. The American newspapers are amazed that the report should have been kept secret so long.—A. and N.Z, Cable.
