DUNEDIN CRICKET CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING. Major W. Fleming (president) presided over the annual meeting of the l>unedin Cricket Club, which was held last evening. The attendance was satisfactory and keen interest was shown in the proceedings. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, congratulated the club on holding together and doing so well under trying circumstances. Thanks were specially due to those “resurrected players 1 ' who'came out and kept things going. Now that the war was quite over and many of our young cricketers were back in civilian life, there was no doubt the game would go ahead again, and that those who had played in other lands and seen good cricket played would have benefited 1 thereby. He congratulated Mr L. Grigg on having won the Maclean Cup for the highest batting average during Last season. The matter of junior players was one that called for the attention of the club, and he would urge the committee to devise some means of securing the support of the younger men. The thanks of members were due to Messrs Mackersy and Robson for the valuable work they had performed in helping the old club to tide over many difficulties, the result being that the finances were in a healthy condition and the prospects for the coming season very bright. Mr G. Eyre seconded the motion.
Mr J. Eobson spoke in hopeful terms of the club’s prospects, and urged the committee to set about gathering in new members.
The motion for the adoption of the report and balance-sheet was carried. The following office-bearers were elected :—President, Major W. Fleming; vice-presidents—Messrs G. A. Wycherley, E. S. Wiison, A. Johnson, . Latham, G. Speight, A. Begg, W. ,S. Glass; lion, secretary, Mr J. E. Eobson; assistant secretary, Mr P t . L. Fairmaid ; committee —Messrs V. Perrv. L. Chadwick, R. L. Fairmaid. L. Grigg. A. F. Graham. C. Duckworth; dub captain, .Mr W. W. Mackersy deputy club captain, Mr E. C. Torrance ; selection committee—Messrs Mackersy, Torrance, and V. C. Hardie; delegates to O.C.A.—Messrs G. A. Wycherley and W. Fleming; hon. auditor, Mr 0. Eyre; delegate to Sports Protection Association, Mr J. Eobson. A special and very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr A. Grogan, who has for many years acted as scorer for the senior team.
Some discussion took plaoe regarding matters of general interest to the same, and it was resolved that the olub’s'-dele-gates to the annual meeting of the O.C.A. bo instructed to move or support a resolution reducing the number of teams in the senior grade. The meeting was unanimously of the opinion that the number should be at the most six. It was decided to open the season” with a practice on October 2.
Several new members were proposed. The president then presented the Maclean Cup (to be held for a year) and dub medal to Mr L. Grieg. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chairman.
