QUAINT WILL
A RABBINICAL DOCUMENT. - There has lately been proved one of the uaiutest wills which has yet passed through ho Enghsh Probate Registry, it is written a Hebrew and is that of Mr Ezra Jeshuah i ’ a , merchant, trading in Ceural and Eastern Europe and Asia Minor, nd was originally sworn before the British .onsul at Aleppo, in Syria, in May, 1913. ut has now recently been proved ia Lonon. We quote froiq a translation, of the fill:—> In the name of God let us do and Gu re came before us the distinguished gentleman, Ezra Jeshuah Dwek, the Cohen may the Lord preserve rum, and said unto us, “Know ye that at the present time it is my Will and desire to go across the Seas tor good life and peace and that as no man knoweth bow long ha lives, behold it is my Will and request to prevent disputes between my two sons, who are Air Faradg (may God preserve bun) and Mr Joseph (may God preserve him). For this reason you witnesses be ipy perfect witnesses, and take trom me a complete and perfect possessmn by true and lawfn] money, according to the Rabbinic Law, and write for me m all due form, so as to be completely binding according to Rabbinic Law, and seal and deliver into the hands of my ? f* WO u. u O ? 6 . ,^ ma F Ood preserve them tor hie) that it may bo evidence of title for the sake of truth and justice.” Ihe testator then describes how the estate i to be divided between, his two sons, and no will concludes: All this the aforesaid Mr Ezra the Cohen said to us, and we, the witnesses who signed below, accepted Ms word, and we took from his hands possession complete and perfect by true and lawful and good money according to Rabbinic Law for ail that is mentioned above. Moreover, he swore a solemn oath, accordin'' as all they who swear truthfully, to confirm all and to become responsible and to accept full and complete responsibilitv and we have signed and sealed, without any rcsenration, and not merely as a formality of a deed, and declaring null and void and of no effect anything to the contrary as net truth and justice, and we have signed and sealed our names in this third day of the month of Nisan, in the year 5657, a.m., of the creation’ of the world. lero follow the signatures of the testator nd of the British Consul and of the witesses.
