Mr F. H. Davey, orchard instructor of the Invexcargill branch of the Agricultural Department, has received notice of transfer to Gisborno, and left by the early express on Wednesday. James, the totalisator proprietor, for the past 16 year 6, and has decided to become "mine host" of tho Eoyal Hotel, Temnka, was pxcsented with a. gold chronograph, and a substantial cheque from Mr James, itr Allan Bedford, -who has also been associated with Mr James for soma considerable time, and is taking over tho Balfour Hotel, was the recipient of a silver tea service. General Bird wood arrived, at Wanganui yesterday, and was given, a civic reception. The Eev. W. C. Oliver, of Christchuroh, arrived in Dttnedin by the first exp-rosa last evening to participate in the jubilee of Trinity Church. Mr A. P. Dryden, chief postmaster at Wellington, who joined the service as a cadet in Dunedin in August, 1878, -will retire from tlio service on Friday next. Mr A. T. D. Barron, of Dunedin (lately manager of the ~Sevr Zealand Clothing Factor}-, Hastings), has been appointed manager cf the clothing and mercery department of Lewis, Limited, InvercargilL The Rev. Dr Listen left by the second express this morning on his way to spend a holiday in Sydney. He will return to Dunedin about tho middle of next month for the consecration ceremony which is to take place prior to his leaving for Auckland.
