Tho committee in their tairtv-first annual report say :
Ihe district nursing service has been carried on during the period in a most energetic and successful manner by the three trained nurses and helpers from the district nursing divisions. In all 5,130 visits were made during the 12 months, with an average of 45 patients on the roll. Tho committee desire to emphasise as strongly as they can the importance of the work which is being done bv this department, the nursing of the poor in their own homes. 'While it is impossible to enlarge upon this, it can easilv be understood the amount of work entailed in making 5,000 visits and rendering aid to the sufferers. An efficient ambulance sen-ice has been maintained, 1,080 calls having; been attended during the period under review. The two ambulance motor cars are now on call at the Central Fire Brigade Station, and_ this service is giving general satisfaction.
The Red Cross branch is still fullv occupied with the control of Montecillo Convalescent Home, Jaw Hospital, and attending to the comfort of patients in the military wards at the Dunedin Hospital. Five hundred students attended the regular classes of the association. We regret that a larger number did not face the examiners. This is to be deplored. A student after taking the course of training should endeavor as far as possible to sit for the qualifying examination. A course of lecture demonstrations on influenza home nursing was given bv a trained nurse lent by the Health Department A large number of classes were formed, and over 1,000 women w e r e .riven practical instruction. This course proved very successful, and those attending were enabled at a later date to make very valuable use of the information received " rhe executive desire to thank the anonymous donors of the new motor ambulance winch was placed 'in commission in August, 1919. This has been a great boon to those requiring careful transport and proved most efficient. ' *i. irr .
