BURNS AND BECKETT. FORMER'S CONFIDENCE, ' LONDON, June 17. Tommy Burns, formerly champion of the world, who is to fight Joa Beckett, tne British champion, on July 16, discussing tlie contest says : "Beckett is young, and a real fighter, but boxing is more than brute strength and bull-dog tactics. It will bo my fault if the fight goes 20 rounds, and Beckett will be lucky if he last 10. "If I win, then help me to unearth the man I am toying to find as a.British heavy-weight world's champion." 0.8.A. • , Mr T. Gillies presided over a meeting of the executive of the Otago Boring Association held last evening. In connection with the Otago boxingchampionships the treasurer reported that the total receipts amounted to £526 15s, and the expenses to £149 7s 9d, leaving a. net profit of £177 5s sd. The oank book was submitted, showing a credit balance of £4OB 6s 6d. ° t It was resolved to give gold medals to tne first and second in the championship events at the meeting held on Monday and Tuasdav last.
Mr Kilmartin was appointed to act in conjunction with Mr Foster as delegate to the Napier conference (July 28). A committee was appointed to eelect the representatives for the championships at Napier, and it was decided to pay the whole of the expenses, first class travelling, of the men chosen (either two or three).
