SMOKE CONCERT
POST AND TELEGRAPH FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION.
j A very pleasant evening was spent last I night at the Overseas Club Room on the I occasion of the annual smoke concert of f the Post and Telegraph Football Club. j There was a large attendance of members, las well as representatives of the O.F.A. ! and other clubs, and Mr L). Faulks pre- | sided. A programme of toasts and musical | items was gone through to the marked i enjoyment of all present. I After the loyal toast had been honored I the Chairman extended a welcome to the J representatives of other ,clubs. I Mr Ti. Anderson proposed the " Post ; and Telegraph, Football Club," and said I that as a junior team they showed great promise. "He hoped the older members of the club would take an interest in the boys and promote the right spirit. One of their members, Mr ,T A. Milbnrn, was one of the best chairmen the O.F.A. had ; ever had. He wished the club every sneI cess.—Mr Faulks, in reply, said he berv>~e6 their club always put the game ; before the result. Mr W. Briggs said the i team had commenced in the fourth prade j four years ago, ana was now i n the second ! grade. j "The Otago Football .Association" was i proposed by Mr W. R. M'Kenzie, who | said that body was deserving of the thanks jof all Soccer plavers. The members of j the association put in a great amount of j time for the benefit of players.—ln reply, j Mr H. Hassall said the pssociation were i doing all they could to further Association football, but they were confronted • with many difficulties. There was a shortj age of grounds and a lack of fund'. It i was only by the loyat support of players that they could carry «n. "Just now they were trying to get a ground of their own, nnd he looked forward to better times in Soccer world.—Mr C. said the association were spending the money thev had judiciously to help the younger players. They were hoping to get one "or two new grounds at the St. Kilda tram terminus.
" Post and Telegraph Officers' Association" was proposed by ,"'r D. A. Herbert, who said the association had its inception in Dunedin, and referred to the cnereetic efforts of its founders. The members of the service owed a,debt of gratitude to those who had started the association, which had meant a great deal to them in the way of salaries and conditions.—Mr W. R. M'Kenzie replied. Other toasts honored were "Referees' Club," "The Ladies," and "Press." Mr .Storey acted as accompanist, and items were given by Messrs J. Deaker, Hendry, Sf.raehan, j. A. R Brown, A. W. Romeril, and F. S. Clarke."
