THE CHINESE INVASION.

TO THE KDITOE. Sir,—Your correspondent T. C. Morris enters "a plea <Jf sympathy on behalf of 'John Chinaman,' r ' and as a British 1 subject realises "in a measure that this I great Empire .has a great mission to ful|fil in the world," part of which, is, he (says, "to bring the 'heathen' nations up to her own level." With all this I entirely agree, but the greatest of all her missions is to make 6ure that we are not in any way brought down from that level ourselves. I consider that the Christion duty of our Empire is I send missionaries into the midst of the "heathen" to educate them up to our level, and when all have been levelled up, then the Millennium will have been attained. If we encourage the inferior races to come into our midst before this has been achieved we are undoubtedly retarding the -working of God's plan, as it matters not how we legislate to stop a general influx of these people, for iF any of them are allowed—as they are under "the easting law—to come iii, and I do not look to Parliament to alter, this, they must inevitably have a detrimental effect on our people: On the other hand, by our missionaries going out to their lands the good examples shown by their conduct and character will do a heap of good. I have neither a desire nor intent to hurt the feelings of the Chinese. What I do seek is "that this community individually should refrain from encouraging alien enterprises in our midst, as we have a duty to our children—viz., to ensure that no alien nation shall be enriched and assisted to build up armaments with which to destroy posterity. The only way to be sure of this is by buying solely from our own nationality.—l am, etc., " Patbiot. July 1.
