Major Wm. B. M'Lean, 4th (Otago) Regiment, is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, dated May 21, 1920. General Headquarters Instructions, dated June 21, contains the following par- • ticulars regarding sale of rifle barrels to rifle clubs with reference to General Headquarters, Instruction, No. 106, of October 14, 1919:—The first shipment of barrels with bodies, M.L.E. rifle, ink. 1., H.V., and heads, breech bolt M.L.E, rifle H.V., has now come to hand, and as goon as the barrels, etc., have been checked into store the shipment will be distributed amongst] the ordance stores at Auckland, Palmer- , ston North, ‘Wellington, Christchurch, and j Dunedin. Bulk ordorS for these barrels, ■ , etc., will be. forwarded by rifle clubs to j . the ordnance officer of the district to I which the clubs belong, except in the i case of rifle clubs adjacent to the city of j Wellington and clubs in the Nelson and | West- Coast groups, where a saving in | handling will be effected by proceuring from Wellington instead of from the ord- j nance officers at Palmerston North and Christchurch respectively. In such cases orders will be sent to the Chief Ordnance Officer, Buckle street, Wellington. Orders at present held by the Chief Ordnance Officer will be executed, but no further orders will be acepted by him with the exception of those referred to in the preceding paragraph. Delivery of these barrels, etc., will be taken from the ordnance stores at the various places mentioned above. Intending purchasers must therefore arrange for an agent to collect the barrels, etc., on their behalf. The department accepts no responsibility once delivery has been taken from store. All orders must be signed by both tbe secretary and the president of the club, and must be accompanied by tbe necessary remittance. The price (£3 13s) covers cost of one barrel with body, and one head breech bolt. Where remittance is made by cheque the necessary exchange must be added and cheque certified by bank. Tlie better way, however, is for the reouired amount to be paid into the Public Account at the Bank of New Zealand, and bank receipt forwarded with order, thus obviating the certifying of cheque and saving bank exchange. Money orders or postal notes will be accepted. Group commanders will immediately notify the secretaries of all rifle clubs in terms of the above. lieutenant-colonel R. B. Smytbe, D.5.0., N.Z.S.C., has been appointed to represent the Defence Department on the committee appointed to deal with bulk oil fuel storage in New Zealand. The present stock of mark VI. small arms amrauniton, amounting to 5,000,000 rounds, has been reserved for the use of the Dominion Rifle Association and defence rifle chibs. When this quantity is exhausted no further supply of mark VI. small arms ammunition will be available, its manufacture having, been discontinued. Cabinet’s approval has been obtained ‘ for the formation of an Air Board, constituted as follows : —President, Majorgeneral Sir E. IV. C. Chaytor, K.C.M.Q.. K.C.Y.0., G. 8., A.D.C. ; members— Brigadier-general G. S. Richardson, C.8., ■ C.M.G., C.B’.E. ; Commander T. A. Williams, C.8.E., R.N. ; and representatives of-the folowing departments:—Lands and Survey, Mr T. N. Brodrick; Public Works, Mr it. W. Holmes, 1.5.0. (chief I sngir.eer), Mr F. Furl.ert (deputy); Postal, Mr A- T. Markman (first asistant secretary), Mr G. M'Namara (second assistant secretary) ; secretary (temporary), Lieu-tenant-colonel J. L. Sleeman, C.8.E., M. I.G.S. The duties of this board” will be as follows;—(1) To consider all auestions of aviation in (he Dominion and to advise the Minister responsible; (2) to consider and report nnnn all aviation proposals submitted to the Government; <3) the consideration of all air service questions—commercial, military, and naval ■ —in connection with New Zealand ; (4) the maintenance of touch with ' the Air Ministry in England; (5) the study of aviation activtics throughout tin? world in order to Leon race with modern developments. Power is given f.o 'this board to call in experts on aviation, to give evidence when necessary, and to obtain expert advice from the Air Ministry in England. The Government already have four aeroplanes in New Zealand, and these are housed at the aviation ground at Sockburn. Some time ago the Imperial Go- ! vernment offered tbe Dominion 100 war i machines, and it is understood that £0 i ’planes will he arriving in the Dominion shortly. - In order to remove the, difficulty at present occasioned to men in hospital through the necessity of having the period of availability of their £5 5s civilian clothes warrants, extended from time to time where they have not been able to negotiate them within the specified time, it has been decided that tbe pay accounts of all those still entitled to the privilege of these warrants will he credited with the sum I of £5 5s in lien of'such warrants. Offiiers I commanding hospitals will collect all un- j negotiated civilian clothes warrants still in j tbe possession of patients in their bos- | pitals, and will forward them to the | Officer in Charge War Expenses Office, j Wellington, together with a list of the i names of those men who claim that they j have not already been issued with civilian j clothes warrants to enable the pay accounts of those concerned to -be credited - with the sum of £5 5s after the lists have been checked. Officers commanding hospitals will be responsible for withdrawing greatcoats from those not entilted to retain them—i.e., T.B. cases—prior to their leaving the hospital. Any men other than T.B. cases who wish to retain their greatcoats may do so on the payment of £2 Os 6d in cash, which must be collected by the O.C. hospital, and remitted to the Officer in Charge War Expenses Office. ( Members of the New Zealand P.S. who have, been granted honorary commissions will be entitled to the travelling allowances and annual leave, together with the allowance for upkeep of uniform laid down in regulations in the same manner as commissioned officers of the N.Z. Permanent Forces. From July 1 next tho War Expenses Branch and Base Records Office will be amalgamated and designated the “N.Z.E.F. War Accounts and Record Office.” This office will bo under the control of J. Hutchen, (colonel N.Z. Reserve), who is at present holding the appointment of Officer in Charge War Expenses. All communications in connection with records, pay, and accounts of the N. Expeditionary Force will from the • 30th ins L.be addressed as under; —Officer in Charge, N.Z.E.F. War Accounts and Record Office, Lamb ton ouay, Wellington. The Kiwi Defence Rifle Club intend holding their annual presentation of prizes in the Waratah Rooms on Thursday, July 8, at 7.45 p.m. The function will take, the form of a euchre tournament, followed by a dance.
