ST. CLAIR GROYNE
The big derrick having been built find set up on the sea front, alongside the eastern end of the Esplanade. a start has been made with the double groyne. The first of the piles are being put in by spading, since the bottom is rocky and it would bo no good driving there. The two rows ars 10it apart. As those piles arc fined a staging will be made on top of them, and the derrick is to go o:;t on to this staging and drive the piles that are stepped into sand. Jn this way the derrick .will advance, stop by ston. until the outer end of tiie groyne "is made. The derrick will be bolted to the staging so as to secure it against the waves. Air .'i'Carthe is controlling the work.
