OBITUARY
The death 13 reported of Mr William Lock at his residence at Timaru. Mt Lock, who was 78 years of age at the timo of .his death, came from Queenetown to Invercargill, where he established a bakery business. This he conducted with considerable success for many years, removing some years ago to Timaru. He was an enthusiastic bowler, being a member of the Southland Club. He took little active interest in public matters. Mr Allan Macdougall (fea-michael, who farmed in Southland for a number of years and somo eight years ago bogau similar occupation at Kawhia, died at Ngahinepouri, North Island, recently. Mr Carmichael, who was born in Argyllshire, Scotland, camo to Southland many years ago. For somo time he farmed a large area at Strathrr.ore, in the Western district. Having disposed of this property, the late Mr Carmichael acquired a farm at Lilburn, wluch he sold about eight years ago. and removed to the North Island, pnTchasing a sheep run In tho Kawhia district,. The deceased, during his long residence in Southland, took a prominent part in the public life oi the and did his full share in promoting its interests. Ho wa3 a member of the Bluff Harbor Board, tho Southland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, Wallace A. and P. Association, and the Wallace County Council, having also been chairman of the lost-najned body. Ho twice contested the Wallace parliamentary seat, onco against "Mr M.. (now Judge) Gilfedder, and at a later date against Mr J. C. Thomson, 'but, although, he polled well, hj« v,-as not successful.
