BTTRNSIDE STOCK SALES : THIS DAT...

There was a numerous attendance of country visitors at the Burnsids stock sales to-day. • The yardings of.the various classes of stock were. some/ T what smaller than'has been the case of late. Each class of-stock-met with good competition:.'-sheep and lambs. particularly selling at advanced .'prices, although'the quality was not up to the usual standard. ■' ' Sheep (1,993 yarded).—A medium yarding, the quality on the whole not. good, very few really prime sheep being penned. On account of improved prospects of shipping, freezing buyers were very active, resulting in., a- 1 advance over last week's rates of 2s per head on wethers, and Is 6d ner head on ewes. Prime-wethers brought from 44s to 47s 9d; mediumfrom 58s io 42s 6d; and light and:unfinished from 30s up. Extra prime heavy-weight ewes realised from 52s 6d to 60s, prime from 40s to 45s 9d; mediumfrom 33s to 38s 6d; light and aged from 253 up. Lambs (900 yarded).—A small yarding of medium quality. Freezing buyers were active competitors, and were eager to secure supplies at ar advance of 2s per head on late rates. Values ranged from 22s 6d up t< 35s 3d ... Cattle (197 yarded).—A medium yarding of passable quality. Up to the time of going to press sales were being effected at a - par s with last week's prices. Prime bullocks hrought from £l9 10s to £23 2s '6d; medium from £l6 to £lB 10s; light and unfinished from £l4 10s up. Prime heifers realised from £l4 to £ls 12s 6d; medium from £l2 10s to £l3 10s; an-i light and aged from £9 up. There was a full yarding of store cattle. Those showing good breeding and in a forward condition were eagerly sought after, best sorts selling up to £l7. This shows an advance on late rates, but for young cattle in a backward condition prices were on a par with late rates. Pigs.—A small yarding. Bacon buyers were fully represented. Values for baconers were 7s 6d per head below last week's prices, .while lighter kinds maintained late value-. Best baconers realised from 9fd to per lb, and best porkers from to per lb.
